The home of Antonio Canova

Possagno is known as the birthplace of Antonio Canova. The great sculptor, who was very attached to his homeland, wanted to build the Canovian Temple at his own expense, which stands majestically to protect the town and inside rests the remains of Canova and his brother.

In Possagno we also find La Gipsoteca, connected to Canova’s house and enlarged over the years by Carlo Scarpa. Inside are sketches, plaster casts and preparatory works by the artist himself.
